Lessons Tailored to What You Love

Whether you're drawn to Rock, Jazz, Pop, Soul, Funk or R&B — or want to prepare for grades, dive into production, or just play the songs you love — my teaching adapts entirely to your goals.

🎹

Piano Lessons

From Jazz improvisation and Pop chords to classical technique and ABRSM grades — piano lessons built around your musical world, not a textbook. Whether you want to comp over a Jazz standard or nail a film score, we'll get there together.

Guitar Lessons

Acoustic or electric, beginner or advanced. I specialise in Rock and Jazz improvisation, fingerstyle, and groove — and I love helping students develop a genuine personal style rather than just copying tabs.

Music Theory & Musicianship

Theory taught through playing, not dry textbooks. I focus on practical harmony, ear training, and the kind of understanding that actually improves your playing — from basic scales to complex jazz harmony.

Music Production & Composition

Want to go beyond the instrument? I offer lessons in music production, composition, and creative music coding — from Ableton and Logic to MAX/MSP and sound design, using the same tools I use professionally.

Nicola Rivosecchi, piano and guitar teacher in London

Hi, I'm Nicola

I grew up in Milan, where I first picked up a guitar and never really put it down. Music took me from the city's folk scene to London, where I studied piano, composition and production at LCCM — and later to Edinburgh for a Master's in Sound Design.

I have a particular passion for Jazz and Rock improvisation, but my teaching adapts entirely to what you want to achieve. Maybe you want to finally play the songs you love, jam with friends, explore harmony without reading a note — or go the other way and work towards ABRSM or RockSchool grades. Whatever the goal, we'll find a path that feels right for you.

I truly believe it's never too early — or too late — to follow your musical dreams. Most importantly, lessons should feel enjoyable. The progress comes naturally when you're having fun.

My Approach

Whether you want to groove without reading a note, or take a traditional path through sheet music — I adapt completely to your style.

01

Your Music, Your Goals

We start from what you love and where you want to go. I build the curriculum around you, not a preset syllabus.

02

Groove & Feel First

Deep harmonic understanding and groove don't require reading a note. I prioritise practical musicianship — theory through playing, not theory for its own sake.

03

Improvisation at the Core

I have a particular passion for Jazz and Rock improvisation. Learning to improvise unlocks a new relationship with your instrument and your creativity.

04

No Pressure, Just Progress

Lessons are a safe space to experiment, make mistakes, and enjoy the process. Progress happens naturally when you're having fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be able to read music?+

Not at all. I can teach you to play, improvise, and understand music without ever needing to read a note — through ear training, chord shapes, and practical musicianship. If you do want to learn to read sheet music, I have techniques that make it much more intuitive than traditional methods.

Do you teach children? What ages?+

Yes — I teach students of all ages, from young children (around 5–6 years old) through to adults of any age. I'm fully DBS checked. My approach adapts completely to each student's age, learning style, and goals.

Do you teach ABRSM or RockSchool grades?+

Yes. I prepare students for both ABRSM piano exams and RockSchool guitar and piano grades. That said, grades are entirely optional — many students prefer a more practical, creative path without formal exams, and that works just as well.

Do you offer online lessons?+

Yes — I offer high-quality online lessons via Zoom or FaceTime with optimised audio. Many of my students learn entirely online and progress just as well. It's also great for students outside London or abroad.

Do I need my own instrument?+

For home lessons yes — having your own instrument is essential for practising between sessions. I can advise on what to buy or rent at any budget. For lessons at my studio in Stepney Green, you'll use my instruments during the session.

How often should I take lessons?+

Weekly lessons work best for most students — they keep momentum going and ensure steady progress. Some advanced students benefit from twice-weekly sessions; bi-weekly can work well for highly motivated adult learners.

What is the Premium Package?+

When you purchase 4 or more lessons in advance, you save £5 per lesson and unlock Premium benefits: WhatsApp support between lessons, ad hoc video tutorials, personalised homework recordings, and priority scheduling. Great value for regular students.

What's your cancellation policy?+

Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. I'll always try to find an alternative time within the same week. If we can't arrange a slot within 7 days, the lesson will be forfeited. The more notice you give, the easier it is to be flexible.
